Christian, Stop Debating and Start Demonstrating

“He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” – Proverbs‬ ‭9:7-10‬ ‭

How often do we see believers getting caught up in debates with unbelievers? Is there any fruit in that? According to scripture, the answer is “no”. Unless a person has the fear of the Lord, which equates to an understanding of, and a belief in God’s just judgment and hell, and a reverence for His omnipotent wisdom, then they themselves have no wisdom.

The truth is that non of us have any wisdom of ourselves, our world view is so limited and our minds, will’s, and emotions, are so easily manipulated, twisted, and confounded by the enemy who was by God’s own admittance, “the wisest creature God had created.” That means the devil is wiser then you, he is a lier, and a master deceiver. The devil will outsmart you every time, but he will never outsmart God. Therefore, to fear God will cause you to obey God, which will cause you to walk in His wisdom, which is the only wisdom that is wisdom because it’s the only wisdom that can outsmart the devil’s wisdom.

“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made…”- Geneses‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” – Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-7‬ ‭

So understanding this we can see that it is utterly pointless to try to instruct someone who does not fear the Lord and therefor honor His wisdom above their own. So believers, stop debating with unbelievers, they cannot know the truth until they have first come to know Him that is the truth. Don’t debate moral issues with people who do not have God who is the only moral standard. Don’t debate the deep truths of the bible with people who do not have the Holy Spirit of God, it is not yet open to them. Just give them the gospel, give them the good news, give them Jesus!

“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” – 1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭

Only once a person has truly had a real life changing, new creation, rebirth experience can they then walk in the humility to be instructed in the truth. Only after they have been made new and impossibly changed from what they thought they knew will the revelation of the reality that God’s ways are truly higher then their ways allow them to open up to the deeper wisdom of the way, the truth, and the life. Until then, you’re fighting a loosing fight. Trust God, He knows better.

Stop debating and start demonstrating. You’re not demonstrating Jesus when you are debating Jesus. Show forth the good news and demonstrate the power of the the kingdom of God to set the captive free, transform lives, and do what cannot be explained or understood by the limited wisdom of man. No one can argue with your testimony, so stop debating Jesus and start demonstrating Jesus and you’ll see that the gospel  works on others when you show that it worked on you.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” – ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭12:11‬ ‭

“But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power. For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.” – 1 Corinthians‬ ‭4:19-20‬ ‭

“Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” – Jeremiah‬ ‭17:5-10‬

Game Changer

hqdefaultWant to know how to change your day, and the devil’s too? How to turn the tide on the endless wearying battle with the lies and discouragements that the devil is constantly speaking in your ear? How to get off of the defense and onto the offence in this fight of faith? Then listen up, these are the 2 main rules that you need to put into practice to see everything change so that you can not only more easily hold your ground against the devil but start advancing and taking new territory in the fight.

1.) When God speaks, stop talking and start listening!

2.)But when the devil speaks, stop listening and start talking!

That is to say, don’t struggle in an inward battle with the thoughts, discouragements, and temptations he is speaking into your ear. “Speak” to that mountain of lies and cast it into the sea of forgetfulness! That’s right, stop listening and start speaking! Out Loud!

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” – Proverbs 18:21

So here’s you’re battle plan. Today, make it a point to praise God out loud. Thank Him for all that He has done and brought you through, and all that He WILL do and bring you though! Tell Him how wonderful and faithful He is, how you love Him, and why. Do it all out loud because your are not so much doing it for God to hear, for He knows your heart, but your doing it more so for the devil to hear! Stop letting the things you hear the devil say give you a bad day. Instead start letting the things the devil hears you say give him a bad day! If you are truly a child of God then you have the mind of Christ and the devil cannot get in there so say it out loud and smile that this day you stopped letting him beat you down with his words and lies and you swung back, because this day you stopped listening and started speaking.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” – James 4:7

Remember that the devil is a created being and unlike God he is not omnipotent, therefore he has limited resources and HATES to waste them. So stop leaving him guessing at whether or not his attacks are working and show him that they are not! You do this by speaking to the mountain, OUT LOUD! As soon as he starts whispering doubt, speak faith! When he whispers, discouragement, sing praise! When he shouts lies, whisper truth. When he murmurs complaints, shout thanks to God! Show him that his limited resources are being wasted on you and he will take them elsewhere. That’s when you start praying for those that he took the fight too when it left you! In this, you have graduated from defense to offence and become a contender for the faith!

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints'” – Jude 1:3

The Truth That Sets Men Free

the-risen-christ“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;” – Ephesians‬ ‭6:14‬ ‭

The most under noted article in the Ephesians 6 Armor of God is probably the belt of truth, yet it is the very thing on which everything else hangs. The belt literally ties everything together and secures it in place. So what is it? It is truth and Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life, no man can go to the Father but through Him. Therefor this breastplate of righteousness that is connected to the truth comes only because of Jesus.

However it goes deeper. The belt is not for looks, it’s not a symbolic piece, it has functions and one of it’s main functions concerning this righteousness that is attached to it, is to hold it in place. Sure you can always choose to take it off willingly if you desire to expose yourself to the wilds of the enemy, but you don’t have too and if you don’t, you won’t loose it because the belt secures it (keeps it in place). So let’s look deeper into the belt.

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” – John‬ ‭14:16-17‬ ‭

The belt of truth and the Spirit of truth are one in the same. Jesus told His disciples that the Spirit of truth was the comforter and then later in verse 26 reveals that it is the Holy Spirit.

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” – John‬ ‭14:26‬ ‭

So if the Spirit of truth is the Holy Spirit then why did Jesus tell His disciples that this Spirit of truth that the world had rejected already dwelt with them but later would be within them? Because if Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life, then the Spirit of Truth, even the Holy Spirit, is quite literally, Jesus’ Spirit.

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” – Galatians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭

Therefore, because of what Jesus did, we can receive His Spirit within us which changes us into sons and daughters of God and gives us dominion over all the powers of the enemy, thusly it is by this power (the power of the Holy Spirit unto sonship, or grace) that we not only obtain righteousness but it is by the same power or grace that it is held in place, unless we grieving the Holy Spirit choose to take it off.

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” – Ephesians‬ ‭4:30‬ ‭

The late Leonard Ravenhill often said, “I do not teach that once receiving the Holy Spirit it is impossible to sin, (free will remains) but I do teach that it is possible not to. It is possible not to! God said that there is no temptation that He has not made a way of escape from. He has made a way through the unmatchable unlimited overcoming power of the Holy Spirit, which is grace! Yet this grace only comes by faith, therefor you must believe that it can before it will. It is possible not to sin but you have to believe that the blood of Jesus made this way before God will send the grace (the Spirit of His son) to empower you to not only put on His righteousness, but keep it on. That belt of truth will hold the breastplate of righteousness in place but you will only be given it by faith, faith in this truth. The truth, the way, and the life, that is to say: the truth that shows you the only way to be raised in newness of life, bearing the peaceable fruits of righteousness, without which no man shall see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)

So do you believe? Do you believe that the blood overcomes sin? Do you believe that God is stronger then the devil? Do you believe that He really has made away out of every temptation? Do you believe that when Jesus told the woman at His feet to “go and sin no more”, He with that commandment made a way to obtain it? Do you believe that all power, authority, and dominion belong to Christ? Do you believe that His Spirit lives in you and grants you that same power, authority, and dominion as a joint heir with Christ Jesus? Because Jesus shed His blood to set you free, to give you power over sin, authority over the enemy, to sanctify you by the spirit of grace (the Holy Spirit) granted because of the blood. Therefor, if you do not have faith in the power of the blood to do this, you will not receive the spirit which empowers you by grace to do it. Therefore, the grace only comes by faith.

So what is the truth that sets men free? It’s the truth that you CAN be set free, free from sin, totally free, because whom the Son sets free is free indeed! Do you believe? Because you have to believe! It will only come by faith! Don’t let the devil steal your faith! If you believe, you will receive, and if you receive, you will achieve, for that is the power of God unto us through Christ Jesus our Lord! Gird yourself with this truth and you will be able to stand against ALL the wilds of the devil.

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” – Romans‬ ‭8:11-18‬ ‭

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” – Romans‬ ‭6:1-7‬ ‭

“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?” – Hebrews‬ ‭10:26-29‬ ‭

Watch and Pray

20931167_1754424497918224_1024887147_oTwo simple words that carry such power. Why? Because the power is not in the words, or the action of them, but in God Who works with power to perform His will in the earth. Of all the LORD’s commands, I believe these to be the most difficult to obey, not because they are difficult to do, but because it is difficult to do that only and not want to do something more. When an expert says, “watch me and learn.” It’s always a good idea to pay close attention to what they do and how they do it. Much can be learned by watching a professional do a task. I feel just like this sitting at the feet of Christ. Completely in awe of Him, as He does what only HE can do! I know that I will never be able to attain to His perfection and abilities (at least not on my own), nevertheless I desire to learn as much as I possibly can from Him! So what does He tell us we can learn from Him?

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”‭‭ – Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‬

So first He tells us to come to Him! Then He tells us to rest from all our own labors (because that profits us nothing), then He tells us to take His yoke upon us (because without Him we can do nothing), next He tells us to be meek and lowly like Him (for He came to serve not to be served), then He says we’ll find rest for our souls (no more needless striving for things we could never hope to achieve), just rest (be still and know that He is God) leave those impossibilities to our all powerful God and learn to trust Him with all our hearts and yoke up with Him in prayer How? Simply agree with Him! Agree that if He said it then it shall be! Stay connected to Christ Jesus and move when and where He does. Then and only then, can we become useful to Him! All we need to do is trust and follow walking in complete covenant agreement with all He wants to do, when, where, and how He wants to do it! The difficulty comes when we think we know what He is doing and want to help Him! (Great intentions but that only slows down or halts the process) The difficulty is in doing all this and nothing more! Of all the lessons of Scripture, this, at least in my opinion is the most difficult. Trust, pray, and obey! Nothing more and nothing less! This is truly being led by the Spirit and not walking in the flesh or emotions of our soul. I know in my own life, when I get excited about what God is doing I want to press that gas pedal and go a little faster, but if I feel fear, or am simply lacking in faith, I want to hit the breaks a little. Both of these responses are wrong, they throw you out of God’s timing and may cause you to have to repeat the course, instead we should cling to Jesus and trust Him in every moment of the journey. Only He knows best how to get you to the finish line right on time!

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.”‭‭ – Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-7‬ ‬

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”‭‭ – Romans‬ ‭8:2-8‬ ‬

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”‭‭ – Galatians‬ ‭5:16-25‬ ‬

“And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”‭‭ – Romans‬ ‭8:10-15‬ ‬

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”‭‭ – 2 Timothy‬ ‭4:7-8‬ ‬

“See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.‭‭” – 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:15-24‬ ‬

A Peculiar Glory

girl-dancing-rainAren’t we so quick to despise the “ways” God chooses to supply us with the patience and those things that we so earnestly pray for that we lack? We pray “Lord give me patience”. “Lord give me wisdom.” “Lord sanctify me. I hate this flesh! Lord Give me a balance of emotional strength but give me compassion. Enable me to do your service. Make me like you Lord.” All of the things we pray for, because they really are important, and we do lack them.

It is God Himself who urges us to pray for these things. But, with every stripping away process, new mountain top, or multiple aggravations brought on by the things of this world, they make us weary. They make us cringe at the thought of what tomorrow’s means of learning will bring, we tend to shrug our shoulders, forgetting the whole reason. The beauty of every flat tire. The beauty of every moment we realized we really are so helpless without him. Without all of these planned out, as we see them “disasters” how could He teach us to wait, to smile, to love, to believe, to climb?

Can’t we see He is answering our prayers? He’s giving us every thing we lacked, all of which we prayed for. He is so faithful to us. We don’t appreciate His methods because we are so sickeningly greedy. We want the patience and wisdom and courage right now. We want faith that moves mountains but we’re too lazy to climb more than one stride. We forget that the process/es are very much a part of those fruits that we pray for. They are literally supplying the necessary ingredients that make up the perfect dish. Every single one matters as much as the other. That’s kinda encouraging right?

I pray that whoever is reading this knows, truly knows, that this trial or trials your experiencing are not permanent, but the fruit God gives you from them will be exactly what He chose for you. To bring Him glory in them, to praise Him in them, and most importantly, to make you more like Him.

…And He “will” perfect his work.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher then the earth, so are my ways higher then your ways, and my thoughts then your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9

“For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many rebound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:15-18

“And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
