“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” – Psalm 37:4-5
Our God is a good father who delights in giving good gifts to His children; as the scriptures say. Now not everything we ask for is good for us, and as any good and loving parent, He does look out for us and gives what is best. Yet if there is something that your heart truly intently desires, something that you want enough to have a vision for it in your heart, He will bring it to pass.
I had a vision and desire for revival and eventually God made it happen. He Himself did it, He brought the people and the finances, and put me in the vision manifested. He brought it to pass. This was a desire that He placed in my heart so it was far grander then anything I could have hoped for and I know that there is yet still more to come. The vision isn’t done!
When we moved to our new home there was an overgrown field of thistles and briers. I had a desire and a vision of turning it into a beautiful garden. I put the Lord first, giving my time to Him and not trying to make it happen in my own timing. I prioritized His desires and eventually He gave me mine! Again He sent people, family and friends who came in the proper season and made it happen. He even (yet again) provided the finances. In quick work the wasted land was transformed into exactly what I had imagined. It was in this that I realized and began to see the fulfillment of this passage manifested in my life.
How powerful a revelation, how good a God and Father, how great a weight and gift. What we truly desire, He will give… So make it big, make it selfless, make it impactful, better yet make it His! Because our vision is limited but His is infinite. When I desired what I could imagine, I got a garden. When I desired what He could imagine, I got revival that birthed prayer meetings that shifted seasons and altered everything.
Now having said all of this I do have to give a warning. Because sometimes the desires of our heart can be selfish, or cruel and hurtful toward God. Yet if you desire them enough sometimes He will still allow you to have it. The Israelites in the wilderness desired the foods of Egypt and hated the manna that God had so gracious and miraculously given them. So God gave them what they wanted and it killed them.
The scriptures also tell us that when people don’t want to hear the truth but desire to be lied to because it makes them feel good and keeps them comfortable in their sin and rebellion toward Him, that he will give them what they desire in the form of teachers that or liars.
Worse yet of all this is that those who don’t want God to bother them and desire to be left alone by Him will be given the desire of their hearts also. They will go to the only place where God truly does not exists. In hell there is no presence of God or anything that is “Him”. No love, no mercy, no compassion, no justice, no peace, no gentleness, no kindness, no temperance, no hope, and no escape from it. For those who don’t want God, they will get the desire of their heart, and it will be horrible.
So set a vision in your heart for good and believe for it. Or better yet, seek God for “His” vision of what is good and trust for it. His is so much bigger, better, and grander then anything we could ever hope to muster up or imagine. So grab hold of His vision and run with it! He truly will give us the desires of our heart, though we have to wait for it. And anything that we can imagine we can have it! So ask Him to show you something, knowing that His wisdom is greater then ours and His vision goes farther then our imagining. Then no matter how big, trust Him to make it happen and praise Him for the greater things that are coming!
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” – 1 Corinthians 2:9-12
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.” – Habakkuk 2:2-4
“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” – Mark 11:22-24
