“Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?” – Ezekiel 18:29
The word “equal” here means “just“. Though man is not just, God is always just. There is a reason for everything He does, and wether we understand it or not we can rest assured that the reason is right and just. There is no favoritism with God for He is just and is no respecter of persons, however He is a respecter of humility, brokenness, righteousness, selflessness, and obedience. He knows the hidden workings of the heart. Therefor if He favors someone it is for what He sees regardless of what you feel about it or think you know, and if He abases someone it is for what He sees regardless of what you feel about it or think you know.
“Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.” – Acts 10:34-35
Favoritism is someone receiving favors unjustly while others who are equally as qualified to receive or even more qualified, do not. Favoritism is unjust, therefore a just God cannot be guilty of the injustice of favoritism. However, many have obtained His favor, because favor is justly given by a just God to those who justly deserve it. Sacrifice, humility, selflessness, brokenness, faithfulness to endure inner or outer struggles for God that no one else may see but God, and above all a desire and continuous effort to walk in righteousness (which is humble obedience to the voice and will of God) will gain you God’s favor no matter who you are.
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” – James 4:6
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” – Galatians 3:28
“And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” – Matthew 23:12
Never allow the devil to stir deceitful lies in your heart unto seeds of jealousy, bitterness, opposition, or oppression against your fellow laborers in Christ because of a manifestation of God’s favor in their life. You have no idea what they went through, gave up, endured, or walked out to obtain it. Humble yourself, trust in the justice of God, pray and rejoice for others, maintain your righteousness, and give place for God to show forth His favor of you in due time. To everything there is a season and also a reason for that season. Only God knows the depths of men’s hearts and He judges us all according to the works of it. Though man is unjust in its logic, understanding, and actions, God never is.
“A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” – Proverbs 29:23
“But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.” – Ezekiel 18:21-32
