“Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” – Ephesians 5:14-17
How much time is wasted following our hearts and walking after our own understanding when scripture tells us clearly to “lean not on our own understanding“? Know that the will of God is always contrary to our fleshly desires and nearly always contrary to our logic, this is why scripture tells us to “walk by faith and not by sight“. The easiest thing in the world is to trust God, but the hardest thing in the world is to stop trusting our self so that we can trust God. You see, when we trust our own perceptions, conceptions, ideas, understanding, logic, abilities, talents, training, or wisdom; then we will see no need to seek the Lord for His. This is the downfall of many a well meaning believer. It is the most common tactic of the enemy to steal your time, power, calling, and destiny.
How long have you been stuck in an unfruitful situation? How long have you been waiting for your prayers to be answered or your promise to come? It may be that all this time you were trying to get there in your own wisdom, doing things your own way, trusting your own understanding, and acting of your own leading which caused you to wonder in circles in the wilderness like the Israelites looking for the promised land, instead of seeking the Lord’s will and instructions to get you their quickly. Even if what He says seems illogical to you, I assure you, it is the right way and the quickest path to the promise.
If you want to redeem the time lost, and you should for the days are evil and there is very little time to labor for the harvest, then you must decide that you can not trust yourself to make the right decisions or to avoid the snares of the devil and start trusting God more then self. Start seeking God for His will in everything before you act and no matter what it looks like to your eyes, sounds like to your ears, or feels like to your heart, learn to fully trust what God tells your spirit. By this alone you will truly begin to walk after the spirit and not after the flesh, and only when we walk after the spirit can we fulfill the will of God and redeem the time lost going in circles in the wilderness.
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” – Ephesians 5:16-17
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5-13
