“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thrust for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.” – Amos 8:11-12
For those of us living in the free world, we tend to take the Word of God for granted. Yet in an instant it can be taken away from us as it has for so many across the world, both now and through history. If you suddenly found yourself in a country where owning a bible or listening to a sermon had been made illegal, or you had been imprisoned for your faith and denied access to God’s word, would your faith stand or would your soul starve?
It is important to fill yourself with the Word of God now while you have access to it because assuredly at some point there is a famine coming to the land. A famine not for food and water, but for the Word of God. However, do not only fill yourself with the Word of God, but rather fill yourself also with the God of the Word. It is imperative that you spend time in the secret place of prayer communing with the God of the Word and learn to hear His voice, for though man can take the Word of God from you, no man can take the God of the Word out of you! You see, since they cannot disconnect you from the source, His words continue to well up within you, ministering to you and through you to others, the word of truth and revelation.
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, (the Holy Spirit) is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” – John 16:13-15
Learn to hear the voice of the shepherd in prayer through the power of the Holy Spirit and no matter what famine may come to the land, you will never thirst for truth again, for it will well up from with in you as a spring of living water refreshing your weary soul and bringing life to those around you. Even as it did for the apostles of old, even so now will it do the same for you.
“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” – John 4:14
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” – John 10:27-28
