Why does God feel so far away sometimes when before He felt like He was at arms reach? It’s usually because of one of these two reasons.
- The first is because your going through something really hard that is testing your faith and as every student knows, the teacher always tries to stay silent during the test.
When you are going through struggles in life, though God may not have caused them He does watch your reactions to them, as a test of you’re faith and loyalty. He wants to see if you will call out to Him for help. He wants to see if you have faith that everything is already taken care of. He wants you to seek Him at your weakest times, to give you strength in His name.
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” – James 1:2-4
- The second reason is that you’re continuing to live a life of sin, instead of turning away from it.
When you continue a life of sin, God will distance Himself from you and let you live it. God does not want to be around it. Think of it this way, it’s like you wanting a friend to come hang out with you and others that are drinking, but that friend doesn’t drink and it makes them uncomfortable to be around it. Do you really think that he or she is going to show up? No. They will let you live your life and wait for YOU to contact them when you are done with those ways. Jesus died for ALL OUR SINS! Do you really think that He wants to be reminded of sin? When you are born again, Jesus lives in you in the spirit. So whatever you do in your life or surround yourself with, you are exposing Jesus to it. If He feels uncomfortable with it, he will distance Himself from you until you turn from those ways.
When you are at a rock concert, do you feel Jesus? When you’re at a party drinking and doing drugs, do you feel Jesus? When you’re smoking a cigarette, do you feel Jesus? When you’re watching TV or listening to secular music, do you feel Jesus? When you are at a nightclub, do you feel Jesus?
However, when you are reading your Bible, do you feel Jesus? When you are at church, do you feel Jesus? When you are helping others in need, do you feel Jesus? When you pray, do you feel Jesus?
Jesus is always there but if you make Him feel uncomfortable He will distance Himself from you. It’s Jesus or the world, you can’t have both. Think about it, in the end who will determine whether you burn in hell or live in love, peace, and joy forever? Definitely not the world. In the end, HIS judgment is the ONLY one that will matter.
“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” – Isaiah 59:1-2
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” – 1 John 2:15-17
