“For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.” – Zechariah 10:2
Here we see Zechariah speaking an all to familiar warning of what happens to a congregation and a people at large, when ministers trade uncomfortable truths for pleasant messages, prosperity preaching, sugar coated gospels, and twisted scriptures that subvert and pervert grace to keep the sinful happy in their sin and keep the people divided from God, the truth, and each other, while keeping them subservient to the leadership. These shepherds that Zechariah spoke of, like many ministers today were more concerned with building their own kingdom then building God’s. In fact they were building their own kingdoms at the very expense of God’s. To which, God decrees, these people are not pastors (or shepherds) at all in His eyes, stating the very sad fact that the people really had no shepherd.
Ezekiel takes this message, and God’s heart on it a bit deeper exposing the reality that these kinds of pastors or nothing more then wolves in sheep’s clothing seeking only to feed themselves on the sheep. The temporary gain of money, notoriety, fame, glory, and prestige they gain from false manifestations, flattering prophecies, and the preaching of lies, heresies, and hypocrisies is worth more to them then the eternal souls of men.
They destroy those that are fed full of the word of God, instead of strengthening them and sending them out for fear that they will bring truth to the flock and reveal the false shepherd for what they are with the light of the word. Therefor, they cannibalize their own when they find truth. They do no true deliverance but rather, deliver their people to counterfeit spirits for the promise of false manifestations that bring men glory while mocking and blaspheming the Holy Spirit, His true gifts and manifestations, and their purpose. They have extravagant homes and expensive wardrobes beyond their need at the expense of the widows tithe. They have no desire to do the humble work of a true shepherd, tending individually and selflessly to the lost, wounded, broken, destitute, dirty, poor, and imprisoned with no hope to gain from it. They only seek photo ops, crowds, and venues that hold the potential to benefit their name, notoriety, or income. They are building a career not answering a calling and anything that threatens that career or is seen as competition to it, they will seek to destroy.
“And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock. The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them. Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the Lord; As I live, saith the Lord God, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them.” – Ezekiel 34:1-10
Ezekiel chapter 33 tells us that as shepherds, watchmen, pastors, prophets, teachers, and the like, we are required to warn the people of their sins and wrong doings, not make them comfortable with them for popularity and big followings, for if they die in their sins un-warned, their soul will be damned and their blood will be on our hands at the of judgment. God does not take kindly to those who destroy, divide, mislead, and scatter His flock for selfish gain. He may allow it for a season but eventually judgment comes. The church today has been over run by these wicked men, overtaken by pride, greed, jealousy, and vain glory. God is coming with a whirlwind of His fury to pour out wrath upon the heads of those who have devoured His flock for selfish gain and bring reproach upon His Holy Name. Search your heart, if you find yourself to be among the guilty by either action or acquiescence, fall on your face and repent while there is still time, for the time is short and He stands even at the door. Know that God will not be mocked, He is coming to dethrone you, for He alone is Lord. Tremble at his presence and repent.
“They say still unto them that despise me, The Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you. For who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.” – Jeremiah 23:17-20
“Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord.” – Jeremiah 23:1-2
