Why Judgment Will Begin In The House Of The Lord

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” – 1 Peter 4:17

Why does judgment begin at the house of God? With all the wicked in the world why would God judge His church first? Because He is just and He hates rebellion. You see God knows that sinners will sin and He has mercy on those that lack understanding, giving them time to come to the knowledge of the truth. However, for those that know the truth, that know Him and His word yet still choose to walk the fence and play with sin while bringing reproach upon His Holy Name by calling themselves His, while being anything but holy as He is holy, He deals a bit more harshly.

“He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” – Hebrews 10:28-31

“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” – Revelation 3:15-19

Jesus clearly states that He would rather us be cold, then lukewarm. He says that those who ride the fence calling themselves Christians while not burning with the fire of the Holy Spirit driving them to abstain from sin and walk in His commandments and statues will be spued out of His mouth, sounds like judgment to me. God hates lukewarmness because it brings shame upon His name when people claim to serve and represent Him while really serving themselves and representing the world. It not only damns their own soul but damages the faith of others who seeing their compromise, sin, and rebellion then use it to justify their own. God is a God of uncompromising Holiness and purity and He calls us to be the same, making it very clear that He is coming back only for a “pure and spotless bride”. This is why His judgment begins in His own house. Through The mercy of correction and wrath, He aims to purify His people and force them to pick a side, either hot or cold, in the end there will be no lukewarms.

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.” 1 Peter 4:17-19

You see, Jesus really meant it when He said that “narrow is the way that leads to life and few are they that find it.” Many claim to be Christians but few really are. I am thoroughly convinced that on the day of judgment we will all be surprised at how few actually make it to heaven because so few were told that they actually have to obey God and not just believe in Him.

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” – James 2:19-20

Jesus tells us clearly in Matthew 7:22, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Doing God’s will is key. Only those that do God’s will and not their own, putting away their sin and selfish desires and putting on Christ which is holiness, humility, purity, servant hood, and self sacrifice for the will of God, are truly saved and will make it to heaven. This is why judgment is coming to the house of the Lord, to weed out the tares from among the wheat and separate the goats from the sheep, those who serve self, will not stand for God in the face of tribulation, but those who are truly submitted to God’s will above their own, will. Choose ye this day whom you will serve and do it to the fullest with your whole heart, for those that endure till the end shall be saved.

“That he (Jesus) might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” – Ephesians 5:27

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him (Jesus): for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” – Revelation 19:7-8

“And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.” – Revelation 7:14-15
