“Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” – Hosea 4:1-6
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge“, God says, because no one will reprove sin. What a sad selfish state the nation of Israel was in at this point. What’s even sadder still is that the church of today and many of the nations of the world are back in this same spiritual state now. The people had no real knowledge of the truth of God’s word because no one was reproving or rebuking sin, the prophets were not speaking the hard words of rebuke, nor God’s warnings or ultimatums against the wicked, prideful, sinful, and rebellious. No one but Hosea. The one. There always seems to be that one, the only one speaking God’s broken and frustrated heart, giving the unpleasant truth that God says fall on your face and repent because He is about to shut the party down. To which no one hardly ever listens, as that one voice in the wilderness becomes hated among men who want only to continue sinning in peace without the weight of conviction or truth ringing in their ears. No one wants to give up the pleasures of sin for the brokenness of God, not realizing that His brokenness stems from the knowledge that’s sin is only pleasurable for a season but after that death, and the knowledge that this season is at its end.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame. They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity. And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings. For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord. Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.” – Hosea 4:6-12
God blamed the priest and the prophets for this situation and all the people’s blood was on their hands because they did not reprove sin. They wanted to please men and themselves more then God. Not unlike today’s un-biblical doctrines that say, “prophecy is only for edifying” but when they say “edifying” they really mean “flattering“. Biblical prophets always spoke God’s warnings and corrections that one might attain to walk in right standing with God. This is true edification, “which means to build a strong and right foundation“. The idea that God can only speak to you if He is praising or flattering you is prideful, arrogant, and Satanic at its core.
“That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:” – Isaiah 30:9-10
Doctrines, teachings, and ministers that justify sin with grace when grace was never mercy to sin but rather the power to overcome and abstain from sin. Turning the grace of God into lasciviousness, they never worn that a person’s willful sin (even after coming to the knowledge of salvation through Christ Jesus) will separate them from God and that no sinner will inherit the kingdom of God.
“For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness…” – Jude 1:4
“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” – Isaiah 59:2
“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. …Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? …It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” – Hebrews 10:26-27, 29, 31
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” – 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Where are the Stephen’s, the Paul’s, the John the Baptist’s, the Jeremiah’s, Isaiah’s, and Hosea’s? Those willing to speak God’s truth even if no one wants to hear it? Those willing to give up the adoration of the crowds, to give up their salaries, their comfort, and their desires, for God’s? Where are those willing to lay down their very lives for the sake of the Gospel, for the chance to speak God’s truth to those heading for hell’s fire, no matter the cost. Where are those willing to seek and obey the voice of God no matter what He says or how un-beneficial it may seem to you in the physical? Where are those willing to be like Christ?
The world doesn’t need an other new thing, a new way of making the gospel relevant, appealing, pleasing, or appeasing to people. It needs to know that it has always been relevant and only a return to old fashion, unapologetic, true to the Word of God, holiness preaching by men and women of integrity, uncompromising of the truth, power, and sovereignty of the entirety of God’s Word will do this. We need a return of the biblical preachers and prophets, a people that will stop looking for the new way, and go back to the true way.

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” – 2 Timothy 4:2-5
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Matthew 16:24-26
