He Is Our Great Hope and Strength

walking-down-country-road-to-cross-small “The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?” – ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:14‬ ‭

How true this proverb is. I have seen so many stricken with tragedy, disability, and infirmity yet strong in spirit. Drawing strength from the Holy Spirit, that great comforter, these people know that they can do all things through Christ who strengthen them (Philippians 4:13). On the other hand, I’ve seen those suffering from either the same troubles or even none of these troubles in complete despair, depression, and hopelessness. One group holds to hope and the other has lost all hope. Why? What’s the difference between them? What does one have that the other doesn’t?

“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” – ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:12‬

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” – Titus‬ ‭2:11-14‬ ‭

Jesus is the answer. He is our hope, our strength, our strong tower in times of trouble, our refuge from the storms, and our ever lasting arm to cling to, cry on, and get pulled back up again by. His arm is not to short that it can not reach to save us, no matter where we are. Those that trust in Him renew their strength like Eagles as He restores the years the canker worm has stollen. And greater still then all of this is our great hope of eternal glory, forever with Him in heavenly places. In sorrow he is the bottler of our tears, in shame He is the lifter of our heads, in weakness He is the girder of our loins, in life He is the redeemer of our righteousness, and in death He is the welcomer of our soul. In all things, He is our hope, our tree of life.

“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” – ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:12‬

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” – ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2:7‬

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” – Revelation‬ ‭22:1-2‬ ‭

“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be worried for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” – ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:4-9‬ ‭
