“And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves. Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.” – Hosea 13:2-4
There is a storm coming, and though storms are very trying times for all, they are not without purpose. Storms bring the rains that bring new life and they also bring winds that are great for winnowing. Winnowing is the process by which chaff is removed from wheat grain. Chaff is the worthless hollow paper like hull of the wheat grain. It looks just like the wheat but has no real value, it contains no substance, no nutritional value by which to feed others with. It also makes it impossible for the rest of the wheat to be turned into bread, and therefore being thoroughly mixed in with the wheat, serves only to make the whole harvest useless and unable to serve the purpose for which it was sown. Sometimes the winds of change blow and storms come in our lives to blow away the chaff in us that we might be purified, having those things removed from us that would prevent us from being useful to God. However, sometimes the winds of change blow and storms come on a much larger scale to blow that chaff from an entire people. Just such a storm is coming to the church. Through out scripture God has referenced those that serve Him as being His wheat, yet the pews and pulpits are so full of chaff that as a whole the church has become all but useless. Just like the chaff, these people look like God’s people and they are thoroughly mixed in among them, but they are hollow on the inside, having no substance by which they may spiritually feed others. They serve only to pollute the body as a whole that it not be useable for attaining the purposes for which it was sown.
Yet again, I tell you that the winds of change are coming, a storm of fury against the church. God promises that judgment will begin in the house of the Lord. Why? To separate the goats from the sheep, the chaff from the wheat. Many go through trials and hardship now and find it hard to stand, how many more will be sifted and blown away by the winds of persecution in years to come? There is more chaff then wheat because so few are filling themselves with the substance of God’s Word while they readily can, and because of this they will be easily blown away by every wind of doctrine that sweeps across the land, even doctrines of devils, and decrees of those carrying the very spirit of anti Christ himself.
“The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.” – Psalms 1:4
Winds of trial, hardship, and persecution are already blowing in many parts of the world but this storm is moving and is fast approaching the western church, being even at the door. Many will be winnowed away being paper shells of what true wheat is, void of any substance of the truth found in the word of God. Many will be sifted and follow their true god’s, mammon (money, gain, title, pomp, possessions, position, and clout), as it is blown from the church by the winds of persecution. Those that serve Baal and the spirit of Balaam, chasing after counterfeits and paper lions for the sake of reveling in a good charismatic party that serves only to glorify both men and the mocking of the Holy Spirit rather than the Holy Spirit itself. It’s coming to blow away those who seek to serve self more then others, and more then God. No self pleasers nor man pleasers will stand in the face of persecution, but God pleasers only. All else are chaff to Him.
“They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me. How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger. They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.” – Job 21:13-18
Yes a storm is coming, and God is sending it. He is sending it because the church is so polluted with chaff that it can not be used to make bread in it’s current state and what is the church meant to be if not the body of Christ, and what is the body of Christ if not the bread of life?
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” – John 6:35
“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.” – Matthew 26:26
“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27
