Dying To Self: What Price Are You Willing To Pay To Go All The Way?

the-risen-christCorinthians 15:31 “I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.”

It’s not a physical death, of course. It means that we are to die to ourselves. We are to boast only in Him. For those who would say, “Why would you give up control to Him?” When I did, I found true freedom. When we give our lives to Jesus, and allow him to transform us, we become exactly what we were created to be.

So we have to get ourselves out of the way, and when we do, God can use us in the way He  wants to. We often want to do things for God, but we don’t want to pay the price to get it. This walk with God costs us everything. Some follow only with conditions; Jesus however, wants complete loyalty with no conditions. Total dedication, not halfhearted commitment. We can’t pick and choose among Jesus’ ideas and follow him selectively. Jesus did not appoint us to be editors of His words, omitting the portions of Jesus’ teaching which we think are “irrelevant.” We must be willing to abandon everything else that has given us security, and not allow anything to distract us from the calling he has made in our lives. The difficulty does not appear to be WHAT we know, but rather, DOING what we know.

“And he said to them all, “if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.” – Luke 9:23-24
