“A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” – Proverbs 18:20-21
We wield a great power in our spoken word. With words we effect the hearts, minds, and souls of men and thus, the world around us (both physical and spiritual). When not chosen wisely our words can tear down those we need to love, and can flatter those we need to rebuke. With words children are taught, the hurting comforted, the weak strengthened, the heart broken, the mind twisted, wars started… all power of life and death truly or in the tongue.
In the book of Revelation we are told that the end time saints overcome satan by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of their testimonies, as well as the fact that they love not there lives unto death. This means that they walked in the authority granted all Christians by the blood of Christ speaking the truth of salvation by that blood as well as what God had done for them, to them, and through them. Even in the face of persecution and death. The devil is a liar and a lie will never stand up against the truth and win in the long run, so the devils tactic is always to try to silence the truth. This is why Christians, above all other religions in the world have always been persecuted. It’s an attempt to silence the truth. Yet all over the world people risk their lives to speak it, while many who have the freedom to, do not.
Scripture tells us the the Word of God is sharp like a two edged sword, a weapon. (Hebrews 4:12). When describing the armor of God given to you as a true Christian in Ephesians chapter 6, we are told that our greatest weapon against the enemy is the Sword of The Spirit, which again, is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). So Remember then if God’s Word is a weapon and we are not only made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) but have also become joint heirs with Christ Jesus (Romans 8:17), then our words also are mighty weapons. Learn to use them against the enemy rather then against each other. With the bible (the written Word), your mouth (the spoken word), and courage you personally hold the greatest tools and weapons against Satan and his kingdom that God, in His infinite wisdom, has placed in this world. Don’t waste it.
Speak life, even if you think no one is listening. After all, the person most greatly effected by your words (rather they be of good or of evil) is the one that hears them the most… “you”.
“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” – Revelation 12:10-11
