“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” – 1Peter1:16
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:” – Ephesians 1:3-4
What does the word holy mean?
Holy-Greek word “hagios” means-sacred physically, pure, morally blameless.
In a deeper study it shows clean, innocent, pure from carnality, modest, pure from every fault.
If God is calling us to be holy then how is it that we think it’s okay to still live the old sinful life we did before. We are saved we repented of our sins , which means to turn away from sin not to go back to the old life that we once lived and just repented for. If we say we are saved and are truly Christians but we are still living in sin then we need to question whether we really are saved.
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” – Galatians 5:19-21
These are just some of the things that keep us from living a holy and righteous life. We as Christians are called to be set apart, righteous and full of the Holy Ghost. We are God’s temple and we are to act like it.
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” – 2 corinthians 6:14-18
If we are truly saved and living for the Lord we should be turning from sin and putting off the old life and living the new life with Christ.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
I know some people believe that they don’t have to change because they was saved by grace and are no longer under the the law and that is true in part we are saved by grace but that does not give us a free ticket to live in sin and
Still go to heaven .
“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” – Romans 6:14-15
GOD FORBID…..We should not be living in sin if we are truly saved. We are free from that old sinful life. God is not, will not, nor has He ever been apart of sin. God is holy and He has called us to be holy. If we are calling ourselves a Christian and we are saved but we have not turned from our old life’s then we need to step back take a long hard look at our life and ask ourselves are we truly living for God, are we living a holy and righteous life, are we truly set apart. The wages of sin is death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
If there is any sin in your life now is the time for repentance don’t wait , now is the time for salvation. You do not know what tomorrow holds or even how long you have left on earth, young or old death does not discriminate. I once heard our youth pastor say coffins are like shoes they come in all sizes.
“(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” – 2 corinthians 6:2
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” – James 4:14
