“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.” – Ecclesiastes 8:11-13
As Christians striving to do that which is right in the eyes of God, we often see those in the world who put forth no effort to serve God nor submit to His words or will. Often times we see people stand indirect opposition to God, doing nothing but evil and yet we question, “Why do they prosper? Where is judgement? Why does God allow this to continue?”
The truth is that God loves all and wishes that none would parish but rather, be brought to repentance. So He terry’s while sending words, signs, and opportunities for the wicked to submit and repent. However, this time of last chances does not last forever. In fact, if not heeded quickly it will end suddenly when the wicked least expect it and God’s judgment will fall in fury and wrath.
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night;…” – 2 Peter 3:9-10
“This is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.” – Isaiah 30:9-13
“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3
Though, as mentioned in our opening verse, judgments on the wicked, wicked actions, and disobediences may seem to come slowly, know that they will surely come. It’s plain and simple, do not play games with God, you will not win.
For those choosing to play with sin, wickedness, or rebellion, I say: Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2), now is the appointed time, don’t put it off, for tomorrow may be too late. Once God begins pouring out from the cup of His wrath, there’s no stopping what’s coming down on you. Act now while you can, or wish later that you had.
For those who have been hurt and wronged by evil men, know that the devil has hopes of stealing your salvation through the planting of the seeds of bitterness and unforgiveness. However, God has tasked you with being broken for these people and praying earnestly for their very souls. Search out and uproot any bitterness and replace it with brokenness. Know that no deed goes unrewarded, be it for good or for bad. Nevertheless, pray for mercy, and that even if God is provoked to wrath that the lost might in it, learn to fear and reverence God, know conviction, humble themselves, repent, turn from their wicked ways, and be saved. For it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Lord…
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” – Galatians 6:7
“For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” – Hebrews 10:30-31
