The lie of the inevitability of perpetual sin has done it’s work wreaking havoc on the modern church. It strips people’s testimonies from them so that they have no power to overcome the enemy but rather are overcome by him daily. I hear it every day, from the lost I hear “There are no real Christians. They’re all hypocrites.”, and from many claiming to be Christians I here the very reason the world has lost hope, they say “We all sin daily. No one is perfect. God’s grace covers us now.” My friend, if you believe that then I implore you to lay aside the teachings of man, pick up the Word of God for yourself, and seek Him for the truth and the truth shall make you free. Do not allow this lie to achieve it’s goal of defeating your hope and preventing the truth of God’s power and glory to be manifested in your life. You can overcome the bonds of sin through the blood and power of Christ and live a righteous life. Jesus himself said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” (John 8:34) He also said, “No man can serve two masters” (Matthew 6:24) Therefore, to believe that you can be a servant of God while still bound by sin is not only the very definition of hypocrisy, it’s actually heresy. Furthermore, it makes the Sacrifice of Christ pointless since He came to free us from sin once and for all as stated in Hebrews 10. Let me make that as clear as I can. Jesus came so that we might be free “from” sin, not free “to” sin.
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” – 2 Timothy 4:2-4
“ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness…” – Jude 1:4
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” – Romans 6:1-2
“Be ye holy; for I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:16
The bible does not teach at any point that sin after salvation is normal or acceptable in any way. It’s a lie of the enemy to still people’s testimony because we “overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our Testimony” (Revelations 12:11). Paul was able to lead the multitudes to Christ because people saw the miracle of a man once bound and damned, but now free from a life of sin by the redemptive, cleansing, and transformative power of the blood of Jesus, and because they saw the change they were able to believe that it was possible for them as well. This is the power that the lie of carnal (or sinning) Christians steals from the gospel.
Do we really believe Jesus? Do we believe the Bible when it says that “God is not a man that He can lie” (Numbers 23:19)? Then why do we call Jesus a liar by believing and spreading doctrines that contradict His words, commandments, and teachings?
“She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” – John 8:11
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” – John 8:36
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” – Galatians 5:1
“For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” – 2 Peter 2:20-22
The Bible is clear that those who return to sin after salvation, loose their salvation and the latter state of them is worse then the former. I could give you page after page of corresponding scriptures for this dire warning as it appears constantly through out the bible. Don’t be deceived, there is freedom for the true Christian from willful sin and anyone who tells you otherwise is either very misled or trying to justify ongoing sin in their own lives and putting your soul in danger of hells fire. Jesus bore all, was persecuted, suffered, bled, died, and rose again to grant us the ability to be freed from a life of sin once and for all. To believe anything less is to make His sacrifice of no effect.
“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” – Hebrews 10:26-31
