Know the Word of God

th“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Hosea 4:6

We know the Bible clearly tells us that the Word is God  ( “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” – John 1:1,14 )  and we understand that to know the Word is to know the heart of God Himself, but far too often today I see people calling themselves Christians while standing in stark opposition to the Word of God. Sometimes these are well meaning but deceived people and sometimes they are not so well meaning people with agendas and motives to deceive others. We’ve all experienced it, when you try to share God’s scriptural truths in love through compassion for the preservation of souls and someone rises up against you claiming the name of Christ but speaking contradictions of the teachings of Christ, yielding half verses and whole lies. Christ warned us of this and more…

“… yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service” – John 16:2 (Spoken to the followers of Christ)

It is critical to be reminded that Satan is a master deceiver, a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)  He will take every opportunity to deceive you to the detriment of your own soul and to the overall body of Christ. He’s been doing it from the beginning and He’s still using the same tactics, because they work.

Examine the tactic: When Satan approached Eve in the garden, the first thing he did was cause her to question God’s Words and Commandments, or at least her understanding of it. “Did God really say that?” Then he did what he does best, he twisted the Words of God knowing that half truths are more effective then whole lies. Once those thoughts were entertained he begin to plant contempt for the intentions of the Words God had spoken. He gave what “seemed like” very logical reasons to believe what he said, topped with a little pride priming and ego stroking. Adam and Even fell for his deceit and many countless others have been doing the same ever since.

There is a very real danger in choosing to “not know” the Word of God. ( I say “choosing to not know” because most of us reading this have free access to it whenever we want.) The danger in not knowing the word of God is that Satan does, and he will twist it to confuse you and those around you at every opportunity. He will cause you to fall on your own sword if you don’t take time to learn how to use it.

Remember that Satan even tried this tactic against Christ Himself! When Christ was tempted in the wilderness, the devil tried the same thing on the second Adam that had worked so well on the first one. However, Christ did not entertain satan’s twisted words backed by partial out-of-context verses. Instead, having a good knowledge and understanding of the Word, He simply quoted true scripture and cut through every lie and trick satan threw at Him. We should always be ready to do the same.

“Study (God’s Word) to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15

The Word of God is a precious and valuable gift. Let us not take it for granted but desire it always “as the deer pants for the waters of the brook.(Psalms 42:1) Let us not be lazy Christians relying on the teachings of others that can so easily be twisted by the enemy but let us seek God ourselves and allow the true teacher, the Holy Spirit, to reveal all truth to us through direct communion with God and time in His Holy and Precious Word.

Finally, take a moment to watch this short video smuggled out of China by missionaries delivering Chinese Christians their very first Bibles. May we all have this reaction every time we pick up the Word of God. Let it bless you and inspire you.
